Whoopi Goldberg: Evolve with the World

She is an actress, comedienne, radio disc jockey, author, singer-songwriter, talk show host and an activist. Not only that, but Whoopi Goldberg is one of the very few to win an Oscar, a Grammy, a Tony and an Emmy. So, when I got a chance to ask Whoopi a few questions at the AARP 50+ Expo in Orlando last week, I wanted to know whether she felt she had realized her full potential. After all, so many people in their fifties that I speak to think that they have already done the most important things in their life. Whoopi sounds like a Zen master when she speaks about flowing with the Universe.

Julia: Hello, Julia Valentine of Joy Compass, I’m so happy to be here right now. When we look at you, we see amazing talent and success; do you feel you have realized your full potential?

Whoopi: No, I don’t think so, at least I hope not!

Julia: Why not?

Whoopi: Because I’m only halfway done! I expect there is more, and as the world evolves, I will probably evolve with it. Into what, I am not sure, but I am sure there’s more! If I thought there wasn’t, it would be quite dull.

Julia: Would you like to expand on what you would like to do, is there anything else?

Whoopi: I am sure there is, it just has not manifested itself yet. So, when it does, I will probably show up and do it.

Julia: So, you are not a planner, you are someone who lives in the moment …

Whoopi: I try to be in the present. I do try to plan, but I am not terribly good at it. Life happens - you plan to do one thing and something else happens, and it turns your whole world upside down. You have to stay a little loose.
