I asked Cesar Milan if animals can teach us something about living joyfully, and - are you surprised? - there is plenty to learn from them. Animals are great at dealing with uncertainty (we aren't), they don't follow unstable leaders (we do), and they go by how someone feels (we mostly go by how someone looks). Sounds fascinating? Read on.
Julia Valentine: What can we learn about living well from animals?
Cesar: We can learn, especially nowadays, when America is going really bad. It’s how we deal with uncertainty; animals are amazing in the way they view uncertainty. A human pretty much drowns himself in uncertainty. Therefore, a human is going to become more afraid every single day, even though he can become super wealthy.
It is not about being poor, or being wealthy, it is about how you deal with life, period. Because animals don’t know what you do for a living, they just know how you live your life. Living your life at an early age, at an adolescent age, at an adult stage, or a senior stage, is pretty much the same. It’s the same principles all the way. It’s about honesty, it’s about integrity, it’s about loyalty. An animal, or a dog in my case, represents that, because animals don’t follow instability. Only humans follow unstable pack leaders in the world. Not only do we follow them, we re-elect them; not only do we re-elect them, we give them more power.
We need to learn to be very honest and to really evaluate people not on how they look, but on how they feel. One way to evaluate a human is to see him around animals, rather than humans. An animal does not care whether you wear Dolce & Gabbana or Hugo Boss. He evaluates, he will not judge you. Learning to live in the now, and learning to be conscious of who you are mentally, energy-wise, is extremely important now to be part of a pack, to be part of the country. A lot of people are running offices, but they are not honest. A lot of people run offices, but do not have integrity, why would we give them loyalty? Animals are very honest and have high levels of integrity. You can’t buy integrity. In order to rehabilitate the country, we need to make sure we choose the right leaders. Dogs will not choose unstable leaders, there are a lot of lessons to learn for them.
Julia: How do we learn living joyfully from them?
Cesar: Joyfully is when you have honesty, when you have integrity, that’s love, right there. You don’t need money to make money. When I came to America 20 years ago, I jumped the border. I came with no money. You don’t need money to make money in America. You just need to believe in yourself, and to believe in God, those two elements are the most powerful things you can have. Then America makes you very smart, and then you learn how to charge!
